One of our local quilt clubs held their annual quilt show at Streamcliff........Steve and Linda stopped in at the farm and went with me....Beautiful hand work.

Persimmon Pudding Time
When I went to the barn to feed the cats yesterday evening, I took the 4-wheeler over to the orchard to check on pears, and noticed the ground under the persimmon trees was covered with persimmons.........usually they don't fall until frost, but all the high winds yesterday evidently shook some loose. I picked up one and tasted it, expecting it to be puckerish, but it was wonderfully sweet and good, so I picked up enough for a pudding......
So we have a pudding for the week-end ........sorry all you guys that are on diets, I know I'm not helping, but persimmon pudding time only comes once a year - however I do have a tub of Diet Whipped Topping........

Farm Work
I have been cutting weeds, green briars and new little tree growth out of the roadways through the woods here on the farm.......too many dead limbs to pick up, to bring the mower through. A job that I usually get done this time of the year.....
And I don't exactly call it work - just my two hours a morning "at the gym". Bear goes with me, but she doesn't like the weed-eater, she stays close to the 4-wheeler.

A Fallen Marine Comes Home
Our Farm has experienced a lot......Today a procession passed the farm of Marines, Police, Family and I'm sure all brances of the local retired servicemen escorting a Marine killed in Afghanistan last week home to Versailles. He was brought to our local St. Anne Airport where he was greeted with this contingent of family and friends to take him home. We stood out at the main road - Bill in full uniform, Kelly and I. Bill saluted the ambulance as it passed.

The Harvest - 2010
Opening up the field........Our farmers moved in early this morning - 4 of them - one on the combine, one off-loading the combine and into the semis, and one on each of the two semis.....It is so dry, I have been concerned for several days - fearful of fire, especially from the campground fires from just across the river.

Vernon - Labor Day Weekend
Antiques, collectables and everything in between lined the streets and roads from the northern edge of Jennings County along Highway 7, through North Vernon (South State Street was a Zoo) and culminating in Vernon - where it originated 50 years ago, and has grown by leaps and bounds each year since! The weather has been beautiful, and the people have turned out in throngs.....

An afternoon frozen in time
Amanda found a chance to break away, and surprised us all by a welcome visit for the Labor Day week-end. We got to claim her and Leia for Friday afternoon - Steve sneaked off work, Kelly and Bill were off work . We polished off a beef-roast and trimmings for lunch and a whole pitcher of iced tea., then Bill picked up Ashley after school....a nice family get-together!
